Koopmans Koninklijke Meelfabrieken: the reliable and innovative food company in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands

Holding of successful companies in the meal, flour and deep-freeze sectors

Koopmans Koninklijke Meelfabrieken is a company to be proud of. We have acquired an impressive reputation among both consumers and professionals in the food sector.

Our modern food company employs some 125 specialists distributed between four operating companies, Koopmans Meel, Laco Crumbs, Koopmans Bakery Products and Mefita. The company was founded in 1846 by Uilke Klazes Koopmans, then a baker's mate, and is still located in the Province of Friesland.

Family values as the basis for a loyal corporate culture

The shares in Koopmans Koninklijke Meelfabrieken are being held traditionally by the family - a guarantee for stability and the adoption of a long-term strategy for the company. Moreover, as a result family values are clearly reflected in the corporate culture.

Consequently we take the greatest of care in linking the continuity of the company to agreeable working conditions for our staff. Our approach to business is characterised by our close and loyal collaboration with our customers and suppliers. In addition, we recognise a great responsibility to society in making our contribution to the daily diet and health of people of all ages.

Koopmans Koninklijke Meelfabrieken and sustainable entrepreneurship

Sustainable entrepreneurship in the food sector

Our ingredients originate directly from nature and, consequently, we are of the opinion that we bear a major responsibility for the quality of the environment. As a major producer, our operations inevitably have an environmental impact: nevertheless, Koopmans Koninklijke Meelfabrieken endeavours to minimise the impact of all its operations. For this reason we also comply with all the relevant legislation and regulations, and participate in sectoral agreements within the scope of the MeerJarenAfsprakenZorg ('Long-term agreements on healthcare', MJAZ) projects.

Structural attention to improvements in energy efficiency

Careful consideration of our energy consumption is integrated in our operations. We monitor energy flows, plan measures on the basis of the Alara principle (= as low as reasonably achievable) and carry out periodic evaluations of the results - all elements of our structural attention to improvements in energy efficiency. Self-evidently, our staff play an active role in the achievement of our sustainable-entrepreneurship goals.
